Greetings from the Mayor
Seinäjoki is the commercial centre of the Region of South Ostrobothnia, located at the junction of good connections.
There was a time when Seinäjoki only consisted of a few cottages on the river banks. Now, in the same neighbourhood, stand the stately premises of the Campus area, the home of research, education and jobs. The former borough with muddy roads in the lap of the South Ostrobothnian plain has grown rapidly into a lively centre of the whole Region. In the summertime, the city becomes an action-packed heart of big summer festivals and events.
All this is not just a coincidence, but the result of goal-directed development and, at times, extremely bold decisions. We have wanted to invest in the future – education, technology and rhythm music.
After the consolidation of the municipalities in 2009, there are over 56 000 inhabitants in Seinäjoki. It is a pleasure to lead the growing and developing City of Seinäjoki.
Welcome to Seinäjoki!
Jorma Rasinmäki
The Mayor
