The new City of Seinäjoki 1.1.2009

The City of Seinäjoki and the Municipalities of Nurmo and Ylistaro were merged into one, the City of Seinäjoki on 1 January 2009. As a result, the new Seinäjoki has:

  • 56.347 inhabitants 
  • approx. 2.500 employees
  • surface area 1.468 km2
  • 90 km from the north to the south (as the crow flies)
  • income tax rate 19,00 (estimated)

Administration

  • 51 council members are elected to the City Council
  • the City Board has 13 members
  • there is a personnel section (6 members) and a city planning section (6 members) in the City Board
  • the boards has 13 members
  • the arranging committee dealt with the city matters until the municipal election in 2008
