Seinäjoki is 24 Hours of Good Living

Seinäjoki is the centre of the Region of South Ostrobothnia, of almost 200 000 inhabitants, and one of the fastest-growing conurbations in Finland. Seinäjoki is situated in Western Finland, in the junction of five railways and national highways.

Seinäjoki is known as a city of education, hospital and health services, culture, sports, as well as of trade and business activities. Moreover, thanks to its Alvar Aalto Centre, Seinäjoki is a recognised destination for architectural visits. In Seinäjoki, the standard of education is one of the highest in Finland.

As a city, Seinäjoki is at the same time comfortably small and big enough, with excellent services nearby, reasonable distances and diversified housing options. In Seinäjoki, you can live in a modern fashion in the city centre, in a beautiful riverside setting, in the rocky landscape of Hallilanvuori, or, if you wish, in the peace and quiet of the countryside. The spirit of the city includes a lot of entrepreneurship and activity, features typical of South Ostrobothnia – and also more and more international elements.

Since Seinäjoki was granted its city charter in 1960, it has almost quadrupled its number of inhabitants. The consolidation with the municipalities of Peräseinäjoki, Nurmo and Ylistaro in 2005 and 2009, naturally added to the number of inhabitants. New residents are also attracted to the city by good study and living opportunities and career prospects – and, of course, by the new larger city itself.

Seinäjoki is also widely known as a centre of tango culture, being the host of the Tangomarkkinat Tango Festival every July. In addition to tango, Seinäjoki also hosts annually Provinssirock, the biggest rock festival in Finland. Moreover, numerous smaller events all the year round add to the charm of the city.
