Maternity and Child Clinics
The aim of the clinics is to give support to parents in their parenthood and child upbringing, and to offer treatment and physical examinations in order to further the development of a child.
In the maternity clinics, the health and the welfare of the whole expectant family and the future child is essential. They follow the progress of a pregnancy as well as a mother’s and her baby’s health, and support the whole family during and after the pregnancy. Cooperation with the family continues in the child clinics.
The services of the child clinics are directed to all families with children until a child’s school age. The child’s physical, mental and social development is followed and supported. The goal is to create a good basis for a child’s lifelong health and favourable development. The clinics also aim at supporting mothers and fathers in their child upbringing and promoting healthy ways of life and the welfare of the whole family.
The services of the maternity and child clinics are free of charge to the residents of the city. An appointment must be made with the nurse and the doctors, but counselling and guidance is also given over the telephone.
The clinics also offer some minor services for adults free of charge, such as the removal of stitches, the treatment of wounds, basic vaccines (also for travellers abroad), and the follow-up of some chronic diseases, e.g. blood pressure and diabetes. An appointment must be made in advance with some clinics.
