Seinäjoki as a City of Higher Education
Seinäjoki is a city of higher education. Research and education are the responsibility of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, the University Consortium of Seinäjoki, as well as of the Epanet network of 16 Research Professors and nearly 100 researchers. The centre of the rapidly growing innovation environment is Seinäjoki Science Park.
The focus of research, education and development in the region is on the following fields: food industry, intelligent machines, culture and experience design, as well as public service innovations.
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is a multidisciplinary, regional institution of higher education, which provides education and R & D services in seven educational fields and in six localities: Seinäjoki, Ilmajoki, Jurva, Kauhajoki, Kauhava and Ähtäri.

University Consortium of Seinäjoki
The University Consortium of Seinäjoki is composed of the Universities of Tampere, Helsinki, Vaasa and the Tampere University of Technology, as well as the Sibelius Academy. Almost 20 departments of these five universities participate in the activities of the University Consortium and provide the knowledge base for research, education and development. The fields of research are information technology, business expertise, food and materials technology, as well as regions and well-being. The education provided is adult education, implemented as Open University studies, Degree-oriented education, and updating education.

The Epanet network
The aim of Epanet, the South Ostrobothnian University Network, is to strengthen the community of South Ostrobothnian researchers and professionals doing development work. In the choice of the fields of research, the emphasis is laid on applied research work and product development in the expanding branches of activity in South Ostrobothnia. Particular support is given to nationally new, interdisciplinary fields of research connecting information technology and the strong industries (metal, food and wood) of the region.
